Our Mission
The Igitoki Way consists of a team of passionate people driven by the same commitment: to create a more just, greener future and empower the next generation of Africa. We are tackling environmental, economic, and societal problems with one, humble plant: the banana. The solutions to our greatest crises are already rooted in our soil. It is up to us to cultivate it.
the three-pronged approach
The Igitoki Way transforms discarded banana stems to accomplish three things:
-
Rwanda’s massive banana industry generates four tons of waste for every ton of fruit. When the waste is left to rot, they release methane and breed pests. When burned, they generate CO2 emissions that suffocate communities and contribute to climate change. By giving the stems new life, The Igitoki Way improves air quality and diverts waste.
-
The Igitoki Way hires recently-graduated students to manufacture the sanitary pads. We offer them fair wages while giving them vocational training for future careers.
-
Through our sanitary pad project, The Igitoki Way supports girls throughout their period and guarantees they stay in school. In doing so, we bridge Africa’s long-standing educational divide and ensure that girls have the opportunity to thrive.
